Playa Samara (week 2) Costa Rica

We made it into week 2 with a poorly Kat, stomach adjusting to local foods but within the day she was up and at em.

We had an early start on Sunday with a guided tour of the local forest and all it's animals and some more secluded beaches. We picked up another guide (a local dog) who joined us for the whole 3 hour trek, only disappearing once to snif out ninja coati, but more of that in a min.

The morning was sunny and peaceful as we walked to the top of the nearby hill to get a view of the beach. Our guide a local "semi professional footballer" Roberto was very good at pointing out all of the animals and plant life native to this area. As we walked up the first hill Roberto pointed out a coati at the top of a nearby palm tree. Having seen Kyle in action we perceived ourselves as experts in the ways of the coati but we were in for a surprise. The coati, on spotting our second guide,(local dog) switched his attentions from the coconut he was devouring and leapt some 5/6 meters down into a ravine and onto a prickly bush.

He made his escape followed by the dog, when we asked if the dog would hurt the Coati Roberto replied that the dog would have little chance against the coties claws. The dog appeared a moment later with little reward for his efforts and carried on leading us through the walk.
We walked to the top to see across the main beach and then down another path I (Chris) slipped most of the way and falling onto my bum at the end, as gracefully as a giraffe on ice.
The beach was empty but the rocks stopped our thoughts of a swim.  An enjoyable trek that wasn't too strenuous for a Sunday.

School continued for a second week. We had a new teacher and progressed well although she did fall ill on our last day, she was fine later I think that she didn't want to hear another hour of mispronunciation from me.  We came back the next day for our final hour with the head of school.

Surfing has been really good fun, a mixture of hard windy days and sunny sessions. The week saw Kat riding green waves and I (Chris) with a shove from the instructor managed a couple too.

We have to say farewell to the our home for the past two weeks, the howler monkeys and Kyle (Coati). As a special farewell to the said Coati Kat threw some scraps, nearly hitting our pal with a coconut. He did have another Coati with him so we left him safe in the knowledge that he would not get lonely as well as a little fearful of future human contact.
